TechnicBRICKs: Week TechVideo, 2013 #02 – Kachi’s Direction Sensitive Gearbox

Jaeho Jung (sunsky) entered into a contest from BrickInside (Korean LUG) where the authors of each creation must remain unknown to the public, until the contest closure. He entered with a car (Kachi). Nothing special about that!

Then you may have also seen before something like this Orbital Gearbox, or this Direction Sensitive Gearbox by Sariel.

Amazing was the practical use that Jaeho Jung made from the properties of such mechanisms (which apparently he didn’t know). The result is, a car with fast forward and slow backward using only one remote channe.
Much like a real car that usually uses a larger gear ratio when in Reverse (see the parking maneuver from the video below). As far as I remember it was the first time that I’ve seen such type of gearbox applied this way into a real LEGO Technic car.

Very well compacted chassis and plenty of functionality, as Jaeho Jung already used us to.

The gearbox in use looks quite complex and compact (image below to the left), but later he still tried a combination with the Sariel’s 2-speed automatic transmission (image below to the right).

Although, the combination turned quite big for compact cars…

Please avoid sending requests to post specific models on this TBs  section.

We understand some of you would enjoy to see your creations featured here, but please understand  that because only one video gets highlighted per week, it is impossible to accommodate all the great MOCs continuously build by the Technic builders out there. They simply won’t fit all and that’s also not the purpose of this blog (see the header statement).

Many of your MOCs are scanned anyway and listed for later publication when they do not fit immediately. However some remain in the backlog queue just for too long and eventually loose the relevance or the publication opportunity window. As a rule of thumb, we also avoid publishing MOCs that have been featured by their authors or other fans at some other great web places dedicated to the Technic community out there. It doesn’t mean that occasionally some won’t get published here anyway.
